How are women represented in films today?
Lewis this is too broad. You need to narrow the focus significantly> I'd choose one particular genre that you watch a lot of and enjoy, and focus on that area. You mention Alien in your writing - do you watch a lot of sci-fi or a lot of horror? You could choose one of these genres? Or you could look at action movies, which are such a traditionally "male" genre where the reps of women have been discussed and are, arguably, changing. You ideas about Bond films would obviously work here.
For primary research some exploration of what male or female fans of the genres think about the reps of gender would work. You could show extracts to a focus group, as well as do some questionnaires etc. We can discuss this all when you have narrowed your focus.
